How to Clean Stuff - Hard Floor Care #2
Poor Durability
When floor polish has poor durability it can be caused by any of the following:
- Incorrect type of cleaning chemical being used. Select a neutral cleaning solution for your floor care program.
- Improper dilution of the chemical. Use according to the directions. Stronger is not necessarily better.
- Incorrect grade of floor pads being used for wet scrubbing, dry buffing or burnishing.
- Excessive dirt and grit on the floor. Consider dust mopping or vacuuming between washing cycles. A quality entrance mat can greatly reduce the quantity of soil getting to the floor.
- Increased foot traffic and / or change of building use.
- Poor cleaning method application simply not getting the floor clean.
Black Marks
Black marks do spoil the appearance of polished floors. Excessive marking can be caused by allowing polish to become too worn away before recoating or not applying sufficient coats in the first place.
Removing black shoe marks from unpolished vinyl is often difficult and yet can be quite easy from a floor with a well maintained polish base applied. Three coats of a good quality polish is usually the minimum recommended and if time and funds allow 5 coats will be easier to maintain and of course have a superior appearance. |
